Grayson's Closet Re-Do.

A few weeks ago I made one of G's closets into a fun little play area. This time I wanted to revamp a real closet....like for clothes.

It's amazing all the stuff my son has accrued since well, his existence was found out. So that leaves us with lots and lots of STUFF. Some of it we use and some of it is past it's useful time for him. All of this stuff was occupying one of Grayson's many closets (seriously, I want two closets).

Let's take a look at the "before" of the clothing closet.

Notice all the big-people clothes taking up residence in the closet for the moment.

I didn't get a stellar shot of the doors but you can see them a little bit in this picture above. they are on a by-pass door track but they are just painted pieces of plywood.

Once the closet was cleaned, gutted, patched, primed and painted a bright white we were in business.

Although the built in drawers may have looked convenient. They kind of freaked me out-potential spider city! So they had to go!  

I purchased this closet tower at Menards. It was simple to put together and anchor to the wall. (Sorry about the blurred picture, I was holding a squirmy, sleepy baby while snapping a few pictures).

I wanted to put a little something unusual in the closet. This chevron/herringbone hybrid stencil was perfect. I wanted to use the comet dust color that I had used here and here however it is very subtle and I worried it would not contrast enough against the white, so I added a bit of pale blue craft paint and voila!! Perfect shade!

Speaking of perfect shades, I picked up this shade at Lowes. It came on a little lamp that was on clearance for $4 so I bought the whole thing just for the cute little shade.

I added some utility hooks (the kind made for ladders and tools) on the "gear" side of the closet. I spray painted them a lovely shade of green that coordinates with the green wall in G's play closet.

I know it's not great photography etiquette, but for the sake of actually being able to see inside the closet I needed to use it's interior light, 

so you can feel free to ignore the huge bright spot staring back at you ;)

The one thing I absolutely needed in this closet was a place to put G's stroller. The utility hooks are AWESOME, I can hang up all of his gear that takes up floor space.

I was able to snag some Sterilite containers on sale which I used to separate too small clothes and label them with chalkboard labels. 

These doors are special order from Lowes. It will take about two weeks to get them in But they are almost identical to the original doors in the rest of the house. I'm ecstatic that Grayson'e closet will have double doors that both open, it will be so much more roomy and convenient for moving things in and out. I guess the closet will be open for the world to see until our doors come in, good thing Grayson has one good looking closet!

Mod Woodland Hideaway

Whenever I am working on a huge project, i.e. my bedroom/bathroom, I like to fit smaller projects in, just so I can actually finish a project. 

This weekend was all about a little something for my boy. Grayson has it bad. I mean really, the kid has TWO large closets in his room. He truly is deprived. I had in mind from the time we moved in that he needed one of these closets to be a toy/play closet. I picked out which closet was going to get the boot and went to work.

Look at all this stuff! And the random cabinet that is so skinny it couldn't possibly hold anything!

There are existing shelves in the closet which make a great toy area.

I took the doors of the closet, took the shelf out of the top of the closet, cleaned out everything and shot a few photos so you could get a good idea of the space.

I primed and painted the inside of the closet.

Since the shelves in the closet were just plywood I cut trim to finish the edge of the shelf, primed and painted all the shelves.

Here are the results and the run down of what I did!

I painted the left wall and back wall of the closet Comet Dust, the same grayish white from our bathroom. I knew I wanted to highlight the mirror wall by painting it a bright sherberty green, Valspar's Island Lime.I put up Threshold velveteen curtains in beige from target to frame the doorway.

The rug is a teal wool and cotton Threshold carpet runner from Target.

The plaid yellow storage ottoman is another Threshold from Target find. The gray birch trees are decal stickers also available at Target. I bought them when we lived in our rental home. (They do travel well, I just peeled them off the wall and stuck them onto wax paper).

This fun little bird is actually a find from our basement, I painted him up and stuck him on the wall.

Grayson is really happy with his little hideaway. I think that it is easier to play now that he has all of his toys displayed for him.

The light blue bins are from dollar tree and I really love them. One of the scary things about Kansas is that brown recluse spiders are a real threat here. We have our house sprayed quarterly but I'm still really paranoid about it. The plastic bins really ease some fears because brown recluses can't climb slick surfaces so they can't get into our little boy's toys.

I picked up these great photo ledges from Menard's. They were called Stafford, so I knew I had to get them. I also picked up some shelf brackets when I was there, they were named Potomac so I think Menard's was pandering pretty hard to NOVA people. I love them though, they are a perfect place to rest Grayson's books.

I mounted this fun Ikea shade over the existing fixture (just a hanging bulb). It's really cute and diffuses the light nicely.

I think Grayson is pretty happy with his own little space for fun and I'm happy to do such a fun project for him!

We Are Putting A Down Payment On A Room At The ER.

We made three trips to the ER last week.

That's right people 3!

In a span of five days we clocked at least 8 hours in the emergency room.

Last Sunday evening our little baby carrot started wheezing just a tad but it only got progressively worse as the hour wore on so we took him in.

LOOK AT THAT LITTLE HOSPITAL GOWN!!!!!

G received a nebulizer treatment and immediately started breathing normally again.

Obviously, wheezing did not keep his spirits down... He was much too busy jumping on the bed.

Wednesday evening I was sick with a flu-like non-flu mystery sickness which took us back to the ER and I'm still not fully recovered from that. Be thankful there are no pictures of that trip, I looked like walking death.

Thursday evening took us on another round in the ER with more wheezing.

Same treatment except this time we got to take a nebulizer home with us!

My best guess is that poor Mr. Pip was the cause of baby boy's little allergy, so he once again takes up residence outside(YAY!!!!). I vacuumed EVERYTHING when we got home to rid any evidence of Pip's existence inside the house, but even if "Cat" was not the cause I guess that is one variable off the list.

Grayson Smiles for Spring.

 We went to file taxes on Monday and at some point we were parked beside a grassy area so of course I did what anyone would do, jump out and take pictures of your kid.

It actually took a while to get a smile, most of the pictures looked like this....

And then he wouldn't look at me. But look at that beautiful RED hair!!

And then is was snack time in the car, and all was right with Grayson's world.

Spring is such a wonderful time of year, flowers blooming, little birdies chirping, butterflies flying And the eggs! Whether they are eggs left by our magical bunny friend or pretty blue robin's eggs I love them all.....

We had a fun time taking some Valentines pictures this morning. Grayson wasn't exactly feeling it but he put up with me for a little while..
