Yeah, I went there...

I did it!
"Did what", you may ask.....
I opened up an etsy shop for my wooden signs!
After making a few in the last couple months.....

You might remember this little beauty from my Iowa post...

And this guy from a more recent post....

And this one, (he never officially made it on the blog)
but after making these and receiving requests from family and friends for their own signs...and a whole headboard for Ally. I've been thinking that maybe I have a knack for this and decided to open shop and give it a try.
This is how you can find me!
Right over there on he sidebar.
Even if this thing proves to be a total failure at least  I learned how to make a "clickable button" and link it to a website, I think that is success in itself.
If you visit my shop don't judge me too harshly just yet..
I've only got two items up so far and the pictures aren't very good but it's late people and I'm tired.
I'll be working on all the little details like pictures an descriptions in the coming week.....
alright that's the end of my etsy shop disclamer.
Good Night.

Transitional Wardrobe

Fall is here and a chill is in the air...... At least in the morning it is. Which means I've started dressing in layers and finding pieces from my summer wardrobe that will still work for these cooler mornings.
Lately I've been seeing these cute striped skirts around Pinterest and I'm totally digging them. I have a mid-calf length dress from when Grayson was still in the oven that I turned into a super cute long fall skirt. I hope you guys don't mind me sharing!
The dress came from Ebay. This will probably sound sketchy but I buy a fair amount of clothing from overseas companies on Ebay. Most of them are from china, they are all new and they all come straight from the factory, and they all come in an astonishingly small envelop.
The dress wasn't maternity so I bought it in a large to accommodate for my 8 month preggo belly but that means that now it is far too big.
So I used it and a t-shirt material scarf from the dollar section at Tar-Jay to construct this cute little number, and here's how I did it.
First I turned the dress inside out and cut my dress right below the arm holes. I held the dress up to my body to decipher where I'd need to cut in order to have the dress touch the floor if it hung around my waist.
I also cut my scarf down the middle, lengthwise. One side will serve as the waist band and the other side will become ties for the waistband.
The "waistband" half of the scarf then gets cut in half vertically. And both of those pieces get folded in half lengthwise. Then they are to be pinned to the raw edge of the dress, one on the front and one on the back. The raw edges of the waist band should be pinned to the raw edges of the dress.
The other half of the scarf that is to be made into the ties will then need to be cut vertically and both pieces will then be folded lengthwise. You will then pin along the long raw edge and continue up ONE side only.
Do the same with the other half and then turn right side out.
Now, take the un-sewn side of the tie and sandwich it between the front and back waistband pieces, with the finished edges of the tie going toward the center of the dress. Repeat on the other side. Pin both sides. Sew both edges of the waistband. Then sew around the skirt and waistband to attach it to the skirt. Remove the pins and turn right side out.
Look how cute your skirt is!!
It can be tied three different ways too! Allow me to model for you....
 Tied in the front/side.
 Tied in the back.
Wrapped behind and tied in the front.
I hope you enjoy your lovely transitional wardrobe piece.

King of His Own Castle.

What can I say.....I'm loving decorating this little boy's nursery!
It's pretty much perfect for him in every way.
I started decorating in one corner and I'm working my way around the room wall by wall so this will be one of many room updates. BUUUUUT I had to share this adorable little tent canopy I made last night.
For those of you who haven't heard this sweet little blanket draped over the side of Carrot's crib was the first thing I ever bought the boy, before I even knew he was a boy!
It's very whimsical and I love that.
I'm hoping that I can make his room just as peaceful and sweet as the enchanted little woodland on his snugglie blanket.
His bed is so cute and I love the classic design of his crib. I made his bedskirt from coordinating fabric in the same line that his blanket is made from and his bed sheets are all natural organic fibers ( not that I have an opinion on this, they just matched his blanket the best ;) ). I realized that his bed, no matter how cute was missing ....something. Well if you follow me at all on Pintrest you may have caught me pinning all sorts of crib canopies, and like always I think to myself "Hey I can do that!"
The canopies are so adorable they remind me of the tents of the king in the Robin Hood movie. Carrot's sheets kind of resemble muslin so that is what I used to make his canopy and pennants which is great because it's cheap and I can get it at Walmart.
I think I really nailed what was missing and my sweet boy has a royally adorable crib.
Stay tuned, more updates to follow :)

Woodland Charm

So.... I FINALLY started putting together the baby Carrot's room

This week most of my projects have been revolving around adding art to my sweet boy's walls.

I covered some old canvases with brown paper grocery bags (how's that for recycling), stenciled and glued paper and fabric to create fun quotes and graphics.

Currently I'm LOVING the sweet little squirrel.

What Johnny Cash and the 2nd amendment have in common...

While I'm sure that Mr. Cash and the 2nd amendment have quite a lot in common, our bathroom has recently made that list.

We most definitely respect the man in black and our fire arms around here and I whipped up this little sign to hang in our bathroom this past week just to prove our love.

Just one step closer to making a house our home :)

A Little More September...

It's starting to feel more like Fall every day!
I absolutely love it!!!
My posts have been kind of sparse lately but that's only because I've been working on about a million and one different projects that will soon become posts when I finish them.
However I whipped up a quick little project yesterday that was just lighting my autumn love flame.

I had actually made the wreath after I saw a similar one for around 50$ on Etsy last christmas and I was super smart to take pictures of the project through out that I can share with you guys. That was you can get your own burlap wreath for 15$ instead of 50 ;)

All of my supplies we purchased at michael's but you can find these at just about any craft store.
All I needed was a foam wreath form
2 burlap garlands
hot-glue/glue-gun

I did this project when we lived in an apartment and our lovely cat believed it was necessary to always be up in my business. He's cute, so I didn't mind...too much.
All you need to do is wrap the burlap around the wreath form to cover all the foam and hot-glue as needed to hold it in place.

Now this part requires a tiny bit more playing with and a fair amount of glue.
You will just need to gather and scrunch your burlap to create little puffs or folds and glue it to hold the puffs in place.
I went around the wreath with the puffs twice, doing and inner ring and an outer ring of puffs. and ended up with.....

This.
The "T" and bow in the first picture I added yesterday.
I fastened them on with fishing line which is great because unlike wire, it's clear and unlike glue it's removable. That way I can add/take away decorations as I choose and I could even use this into Christmas time and change the whole theme of the wreath.

Fall is Here!

FALL IS HERE.....
Well.......not really, but it's September dang it! And all I want to do is drink pumpkin spice latte's, wear boots and have bonfires!
So today despite the very summer-esque weather i decorated our pseudo-mantel/entertainment center for fall.

I still have a few adjustments to make but, that's the basic gist of it.
Those weird little dark, round shadows are grapevine pumpkins that I got in the dollar section at target last year.
And I still have two very empty apothecary jars.....I'm thinking acorns and something else.....
The three wooden planters will be home to little succulents.
The succulents will be fake ones, from hobby lobby because my black thumb will give the kiss of death to any real life plant ever.

I did want to take a minute to toot my own horn on this moss initial craft. Mostly because I dreamed it up all on my own but also because it cost me a total $0.
I cut the "T" out of cardboard from the side of a box. The moss I had left over from a wedding craft and the burlap was from a wreath I made last fall.
I just hot-glued the moss to my letter and hung it with a burlap bow.
I know, I'm so sophisticated with my cardboard box letters, fell free to copy me ;)

Spinach & Chicken Flautas

Day 2 of meals planned by Pintrest...

Was a Success!
I worked up a good appetite today refinishing my dinning room chairs....which still aren't finished but they are getting there and hopefully when finished will be blog worthy.
The recipe was simple and quick. I made salad to go along with the flautas to add some extra veggies and I'd have to say it really was a pretty health conscious meal too since these flautas are baked instead of fried.

TIPS
I used a rotisserie chicken, well half of one to supply my chicken meat ( I'm using the other half for another recipe) but that really cut down on my prep time.
I also used minced garlic, about a teaspoon in place of garlic powder.
The recipe says to bake ten minutes, flip and bake for ten more minutes. I did ten on one side and five on the other. It was enough to get them crunchy on the outside but not burn the ends.
